Wired Makes Me Laugh Till I Cry

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I was searching for an article that I read in Wired magazine (one of consistent reads) when I stumbled across this Geekipedia article highlighting insults using gamer syntax.

“I’m in ur shire, slapping ur hobbittz.”

I laughed until I cried. Maybe I’ve been editing the user manual for too long.

Grandaisy goes West Side y’all

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Our client, Grandaisy Bakery has been working on a new location at 72nd and Amsterdam, and expects to open very soon - like Wednesday. A great Chowhound entry reflects the excitement. I love the visual of all the excited foodies being captured by the webcam.

Go Bakery! Go Bakery!

What They’re Doing In First Grade

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

My daughter came home with a description of a new subject they were going to take on called “Character Power”. The first topic will be Respect. In the first grade respect means patience, open-mindedness, fair and objective attitudes, and valuing your self, others, the environment, cultures, differences, etc.

I find this astonishing. Mrs. Birch’s first grade class at Columbian Elementary had nothing like this. All I remember of first grade is wanting to be part of the color guard because they got to play the drums while they put up the flag. That, and there may have been some behavior issues…

In addition to the hard work they are doing in ‘regular’ subjects they are adding an ethical component. Part of the Respect topic will be to “build food structures with our friends to learn how we work with others to build great things…”. I wonder if I can get them to use PositiveWare?
