eWork Inc Bites The Dust

Monday, December 24th, 2007

December 24 saw the demise of eWorks, formerly ProSaavy. The ProSaavy concept was to take advantage of the power of the internet to connect professional services providers with companies needing their services. But it was a Web 1.0 concept, relying on big fees from service providers and placement fees from buyers. Those revenues appeared to be used to drive heavy web advertising, also a Web 1.0 concept. A quick glance at eLance shows what a 2.0 version of eWorks looks like.

In the end eWorks appears to have succumbed to a class action suit filed by providers dissatisfied with what they were getting. For more detail see the DBJ article.

Journey Through Landscape

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007
For those of you doing Christmas shopping, I would urge you to check out my buddy Evan’s online store. He takes some absolutely delicious pictures using cameras better suited for aerial spying. He has a nice line of cards, books, and calendars. His work is especially nice if you are a fan of western landscape.

Going Video Nuts

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Now that we have cracked the video code it makes a lot of sense to release documentation with video, because the truth is it didn’t look like many people were reading the release notes. So without further ado here are the release notes for 2.1.7 as they have been released on YouTube.

Facebook Freakout

Friday, December 7th, 2007

So I was adding a review to Citysearch when a little notice pops up for a couple of seconds saying that the review was being added to my Facebook page. This was nothing I had set up, and I was really angry. It turns out my reaction was not unique. The launch of Beacon, as this feature is called, has been a certified disaster for Facebook.

This may reflect a generation gap. The Millenials may be totally comfortable with this level of sharing, and it may be my ‘old-school’ ideas about privacy will be swept away by the next generation.

If you want to turn off Beacon refer to this article.
